Most people ask me if Mel Blanc was my mentor. The answer is, “Yes,” but he actually wasn’t an early influence. In addition to actor and Alabama native Jim Nabors best known as “Gomer Pyle,” credit goes to cartoon voice legends Daws Butler (Yogi Bear), Don Messick (Boo Boo Bear), and Jack Mercer (Popeye) for my career as an entertainer. It seems like yesterday that I would come home from school and turn on the television and watch the actors mentioned above bring those wonderful characters to life. I would imagine my name being included in the credits for providing the voices, inspired by the actors’ talents and appreciative of their contributions.
